This adorable cottage was originally built as a copy of the Wythe House’s kitchen. Due to the threat of fire the kitchens were detached in colonial great houses. Normally they were separated by 30-40 feet. This also kept heat from the kitchen away from the main house which was important in the summer. The originator of the estate and village, Mr. Thomas Jones once had colonial cooking sessions here with his friends.

The house also served as General George Washington’s headquarters just before the British siege of Yorktown, and French General Rochambeau made the home his headquarters after victory at Yorktown.
